Professional Engineering Exam

As a licensed Professional Engineer, or PE, you can expect many more benefits when compared to other engineers; most employers offer higher salaries and greater opportunities for advancement to PE's. Only PE's can consult in private practice, and seal company documents to be sent to the government. PEs also have more credibility as expert witnesses in court than most engineers.

Steps in obtaining a PE license:

  • Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Graduate with a bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited engineering curriculum (all Engineering curricula at Michigan Tech except Robotics Engineering).
  • Gain four years of engineering experience under the supervision of a registered professional engineer.
  • Pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam.

During your senior year you should take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, which is required prior to sitting for the Professional Engineers (PE) Exam. Some requirements vary by state.

VMware Letting Some Partners Sell Professional Services Under New Pilot Program

VMware partners that invest in learning the vendor's new storage and networking technologies may soon get a shot at potentially lucrative professional services projects.

In a pilot program unveiled Tuesday at VMware's partner conference in San Francisco, VMware will let services-savvy partners which meet its requirements sell and deliver professional services to customers.

VMware has its own professional services organization, but with new products like NSX, VSAN and vCloud Air now on the market, it's looking to leverage partners' services muscle to meet expected future demand.

"We've grown up as a company that needs professional services. Now, for scale, they need to [bring] partners into the services value channel. Partners that make the investment will get rewards," Dave O'Callaghan, senior vice president of channels and alliances, said in a press conference at the event.

VMware will bring a "limited number" of partners into the program during the first half of the year, and plans to expand its scope in the second half, the Palo Alto, Calif.-based vendor said in a press release.

VMware says partners with skills that span the whole VMware software-defined data center portfolio get priority consideration for the program. While most every partner knows vSphere server virtualization, a lesser number are up to speed on VMware's storage and networking technologies.

Partners in the program will sell services to customers directly, owning the billing relationship. They'll also have free access to VMware's software-defined data center experts, as well as discounted training and other benefits.

Jason Silva, principal at Revel Technology, a Houston-based solution provider and VMware channel partner, told CRN he was impressed that VMware is launching a channel program specifically for professional services.

"VMware for years had ESX," Silver said. "Now it has NSX, AirWatch, and other new things that need to be integrated. I think VMware is trying to round out its partners' professional services capabilities so that they are not just relying on VMware's own professional services."

Getting certified and up to speed on professional services for VMware's growing solution set is a big differentiator for channel partners, Silva said. "This will be beneficial to us," he said. "This is not just a discount on products. They will need to show they are dedicated to the solution set."

In another sign of VMware's commitment, the vendor has hired a new vice president specifically for the program, Silva said. "This is the first time VMware had someone specific to professional services through the channel," he said.

VMware, which plans to make a big channel push with Airwatch this year, also launched a mobility competency for partners. And in Q2, VMware says it plans to launch a software-defined data center competency.

GMAT Syllabus 2024

The GMAT 2024 syllabus consists of four sections, i.e., analytical writing assessment, integrated reasoning, quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning. All the candidates appearing in the GMAT 2024 test must be well-versed in GMAT syllabus 2024 before starting their preparation. Check the important subjects and section-wise breakage for GMAT syllabus.

Analytical Writing Assessment

Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) consists of a 30-minute writing task, in which the aspirants have to write an essay on the given topics. The essay will be given two independent ratings, a computerised studying evaluation gives one and a person at GMAC gives another, and these ratings are averaged together to determine the test taker's AWA score. The AWA rating is based on a scale of 0 (minimum) to 6 (maximum).

Integrated Reasoning

The Integrated Reasoning (IR) section was introduced in June 2012. This section is designed to check the ability to analyse the data presented in multiple formats. The integrated reasoning section includes four question types:

  • Table Analysis
  • Graphics Interpretation
  • Multi-source Reasoning
  • Two-part Analysis

Quantitative Reasoning

This section checks the ability to solve quantitative problems and analyse the information given in various data forms. Questions based on algebra, geometry, and arithmetic are asked in this section. The quantitative section consists of two types of questions:

  • Problem-Solving
  • Data Sufficiency

Problem-solving questions assess one's quantitative reasoning and solution-solving skills. However, data sufficiency questions gauge the ability to comprehend and analyse quantitative problems, recognise the relevant or irrelevant information, and determine the fact that there is insufficient information given to solve a particular problem.

The use of calculators is not allowed in this section.

Verbal Reasoning

The purpose of the Verbal Reasoning (VR) section is to check the studying comprehension skills, critical reasoning ability, and knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary. The verbal reasoning section includes the following question types:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Critical Reasoning
  • Sentence Correction

The studying comprehension question type checks the ability to analyse the information given in the passage and draw a conclusion. The critical reasoning question type assesses reasoning ability and in the sentence correction question type grammar and effective communication skills are tested.

GMAT Exam: Section Order Selection

From July 2017, the GMAC started providing the options to choose the order in which the different sections of the GMAT can be answered. There are total three options available at the test centre and the candidates have to choose one option at the beginning of the exam. All three options are given below for reference:

  1. Analytical writing assessment, integrated reasoning, quantitative, verbal (original order)
  2. Verbal, quantitative, integrated reasoning, analytical writing assessment
  3. Quantitative, verbal, integrated reasoning, analytical writing assessment

What is the Computer Adaptive Approach in the GMAT exam?

The GMAT test comprises computer-adaptive multiple-choice sections for both quantitative and verbal reasoning sections, tailoring the difficulty of questions based on the test taker's performance. Each section begins with an average-difficulty question, and as correct responses are given, the computer offers progressively challenging questions. Conversely, incorrect answers prompt the presentation of easier questions. This process concludes when test takers finish each section providing the computer with an accurate evaluation of the test taker's ability and generating a raw score for each section.
