If companies could hand off their mundane administrative tasks to software robots, employees could focus on higher-level work. That’s Blue Prism’s pitch, and an increasing number of companies—in finance, health care, law, and other industries—are receptive. Blue Prism’s “Robotic Process Automation” software mimics the way humans complete rules-based tasks, such as manually entering data from a paper form into a database. The U.K.-based firm recently expanded its U.S. and Australian operations and signed partnerships with Accenture and IBM. It is currently worth about 500 million pounds, a tenfold increase in value since it went public in March 2016.

Blue Prism invented the term Robotic Process Automation. Its software platform enables business operations to be agile and cost-effective through rapid automation of manual, rules-based, back-office administrative processes, reducing cost and improving accuracy by creating a “virtual workforce”.
The virtual workforce is built by the operational teams or accredited Blue Prism partners using the company's robotic process automation technology to rapidly build and deploy automation through leveraging the presentation layer of existing enterprise applications. The automation schemes are configured and managed within an IT governed framework and operating model that has been iteratively developed through numerous large scale and complex deployments.

Buckley the architect of kicking exam

NATHAN Buckley may be leaving the AIS-AFL Academy this year but his legacy will live on through a new test to be used at the NAB AFL Draft camp to judge a player’s kicking.

The test gives a player three seconds to receive a handball, turn around and kick to a nominated one of six targets.

The test was designed by the former Collingwood great after consultation with the 16 clubs to find out what changes they wanted to the current draft camp.

"The feedback from the clubs and the research the AFL has done over the last 24 months has highlighted the need for trying to measure the kicking in some way. To add to what recruiters see in games and decision making aspects etc. This is a good measure of technique and result as much as anything," Buckley said.

Buckley, who was widely regarded as one of the best kicks in the game, said when devising the test he wanted to combine speed, skills on both sides of the body and quick choices under pressure.

"For the kick test itself, they wanted to add a little bit of decision making. Basically having to make that decision in your mind and that adjustment to know which of the six kicks you’re going to do," he said.

"We’re trying to hold that information back as late as they can so there is an element of decision-making. There’s an element of intensity with the time restriction, left and right foot was something that needed to be considered.

"We’ll film each of the footballers from behind and from the side so that clubs will get vision of the technique, their footwork around the cones which is becoming even more important in the game today and their ability to basically execute the skill under a deal of pressure and there will be people watching them as well."

Buckley said the feedback he received from clubs was that they would like to see more resources put in to kicking skills, defensive skills and managing the volume of football a junior plays.

"The kicking was highlighted first and foremost. I think they will enjoy the fact there is a measure of it at the camp. The other massive plus is that it sends a message down through the grades about what is valued and what is important," he said.

"To have a kick tested at draft camp is going to be crucial because it will send a message to a 12 or 13-year-old kid coming through that your kicking is going to be measured. We’re looking at introducing handball probably not this year, maybe next year."

The clients are the owners of retail brand Hostem and were one of the first to trigger the renaissance of Redchurch Street in Shoreditch. It was their desire to challenge the perception of (and interaction with) food, art and fashion (and fragrance) and to nurture engagement and interaction between these diverse yet compatible sectors under one roof. They set out without a clear brief to select an architect to deliver the as-yet undefined Blue Mountain School.

6a were chosen on the basis of their first project, the Oki-ni Flagship Store in Savile Row, where garments could be viewed and only available to buy online.

Blue Mountain School is extraordinary both in its delivery process and in the resulting building, a project developed and founded on trust between client and architect and their mutual relationship with a joiner called Wayne! This was a three-year collaboration – two years of thought-exchange and one of construction. Ideas continued to evolve during construction and many artists and designers collaborated on the project as the different contributors were identified. Chef Nuno Mendes’s dining club, Mãos, was a late inclusion, which called for incorporation of a new services strategy to accommodate a professional kitchen. The architect had to demonstrate ingenuity and quick thinking in response to the ‘fluid’ brief.

The palette of materials used here is simple, 3 types of bonding plaster which are sometimes left raw and often painted, galvanised metal and a prominent feature of the building, oak from trees sourced and provided by the client which is used for floors, furniture and the central staircase where the extraordinary result is a testament to the close collaboration between client, architect and Wayne.

Attention to detail can be seen wherever you look, an example of this is the clever integration of the air conditioning units into the walls.

Spread over six floors, the building is host to several unique and flexible spaces: Mãos, a professional kitchen, dining and wine rooms; Grace’s, a listening room; Blue Projects, an exhibition space comprised of a series of viewing rooms; a perfumery; and Hostem, an open fashion archive.

Blue Mountain School is a display of 6a’s signature attention to making, in which materials, processes and the ‘hand’ are expressed and celebrated throughout the six-storey monument to fashion and complementary curiosities, the archive is a stunning space where compactor sliding cabinets houses the fashion archive. It is in the basement but can be viewed from street and the ground floor entrance. It is in opposition to their current understanding or acceptance of retail in that it has no shopfront, no floor at street level and doesn’t display its core offer and reflective glass to the street adds a further layer of mystery.

This building is intellectually and conceptually rigorous. The client, architect and joiner relationship is one of trust, collaboration and innovation.

Blue Mountain School will continue to evolve based on the influence of all those involved. Various friends, designers and leading practitioners within their field are part of this ongoing collaboration. This project challenges the future of retail, how buildings are designed and how buildings should be procured and constructed.

Architect to receive blue plaque recognition

AN architect who designed some of Brighton and Hove’s most notable buildings will be honoured with a blue plaque today.

Sir Charles Barry ‘cut his teeth’ in the city designing the Royal Sussex County Hospital and St Peter’s Church before working on his masterpiece, the Houses of Parliament.

The blue plaque will be unveiled on the wall of one of his finest creations, St Andrew’s Church, Waterloo Street, Hove.

Finished in 1827, the building’s Italian Renaissance style and symmetry perfectly match nearby squares and terraces.

Such is its majesty, past worshippers have included dukes and duchesses as well as Queen Victoria.

Born in Westminster in 1795, Sir Charles worked as an apprentice in Lambeth before travelling around Europe for inspiration.

On his return he designed buildings, and in particular churches, across the country.

Many of his works are in Sussex with St Peter’s, Old Steine, Brighton, and Holy Trinity Church, Hurstpierpoint, among the more well known.

He also worked on numerous civic buildings including Halifax Town Hall and The Treasury, in Whitehall, not to mention the remodelling of Highclere Castle, in Hampshire, better known to most as Downton Abbey.

While by no means th biggest or most expensive, St Andrew’s church in Hove is regarded as one of his finest works.

Among his other well-known works in the city include the Pepper Pot, near Queen’s Park, Brighton.

The listed building was built as part of the grand estate for the park owner.

However, his finest hour was arguably yet to come. Following a fire, a contest was held to find a suitable design for the new Houses of Parliament.

Of 97 entrants, Sir Charles was chosen. Work began on the iconic building.

He said the work would take six years at a cost of more than ÂŁ700,000. Twenty-six years later it was finished with the final price tag estimated to be ÂŁ2,166,846.

Speaking about the choice of building for the plaque, Averil Older, chairwoman of the city’s commemorative plaque panel, said “Although the Grade I listed church is plain on the outside, inside there are real treasures, including brass plaques to World War One soldiers.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the Friends of St Andrew’s Church who raised the funds for the blue plaque.”

The plaque will be unveiled at midday with visitors welcome from 11.30am.

Ericom Chief Architect: Browser Isolation Provides a 'Blue Ocean' Of Opportunity For Security-Focused Channel Partners

CRNtv sat down with Eran Heyman, founder and chief architect at Ericom Software Inc., to discuss the impact of browser isolation on the security landscape and channel partners. Ericom Shield is Ericom's browser isolation solution, and according to Heyman, it provides a "blue ocean" of opportunity in the channel.

"Our strategy is to go as big as possible through the channel, in North America and globally to provide support for their partners," said Heyman. Browser isolation is a cybersecurity offering that helps companies isolate their corporate networks and endpoint devices from the public internet.

The company provides support all the way from initial training to joint participation and events. Based on the scope of a few latest cyberattacks, Heyman says that browser isolation, now more than ever, is becoming more mainstream.

"Even just a year ago, people barely understood why it was in existence, but now, people almost instantly know what it means which is really great for the channel," he said.

Heyman explained that now, there is an opportunity for channel partners to approach their clients with something that customers almost instantly understand. He said they will know why they need it in their businesses, and how it is going to provide them with unparalleled protection.
