Before, VC students were trained only on “low-fidelity” mannequins. They had to be told by instructors how their patients were responding. Now, students can physically see the new mannequins’ responses just as they will at the bedside.

“The eyes move, they have a pulse and you can hear their breathing,” said second-year student Janese Perry. “When administering CPR, you see there is no pulse, so you jump right into action. You want to save that patient.”

Oldmixon said the new technology allows more peer-to-peer communication.

“Ninety percent of the communication we do in the hospital is oral communication, so that’s very important for them to be able to gain enough confidence to communicate effectively in stressful conditions,” Oldmixon said. “If all that great knowledge stays trapped inside their brains and doesn’t come out effectively to advocate for the patient, it impacts outcomes.”

The program also used the funds donated by the M.G. and Lillie A. Johnson Foundation to purchase two lung simulators, a ventilator, an advanced patient IV training arm, an intubation trainer and a patient communication simulator.

NVCC Respiratory Care Program Honored | killexams.com real questions and Pass4sure dumps

WATERBURY- The Respiratory Care Program at Naugatuck Valley Community College was honored by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). The Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award is "presented as a part of the CoARC's continued efforts to value the registered respiratory therapist (RRT) credential as a standard of professional achievement. From a program effectiveness perspective, the CoARC views theRRT credential as a measure of a program's success in inspiring its graduates to achieve their highest educational and professional aspirations."

The criteria for selection are based on objective accreditation metrics documented in the 2017 Annual Report of Current Status RCS (Respiratory Care Services). Programs are required to have three or more years of outcomes data, hold accreditation without a progress report, document RRT credentialing success of 90% or above, and meet or exceed established CoARC thresholds for CRT credentialing success, retention, on-time graduation rate, and overall employer and graduate satisfaction. Margaret Guerrera, Professor of Respiratory Care, commented on the award. "Receiving this award from our accrediting body not only speaks to the quality of the education our graduates receive here at NVCC but it speaks to their initiative to reach for higher goals. We are proud to receive it. It is a testament to our program, the faculty, and most especially our graduates."

The Respiratory Care program at NVCC, housed in the new Center for Health Sciences on the Waterbury campus, is part of NVCC's Allied Health Center. Similar trends are consistent across all programs: Allied Health licensure and certification pass rates for the Class of 2017 continued to demonstrate the strength of the College's programs. Results above the national average were reported with 100% pass rates for the Radiologic Technology and Respiratory Care, a 95.5% pass rate for Physical Therapy Assistant programs and a 95% pass rate for the Nursing Program.

The Respiratory Care program at NVCC is designed to prepare students to enter the field with the skills necessary to practice as proficient and competent respiratory therapists. It is designed to meet the evolving health care needs of our diverse community and our faculty are committed to a student-centered approach to teaching and learning that focuses on the development of evidenced-based, ethical and collaborative practice among our graduates and student. Students graduate with an in A.S. Respiratory Care. They are prepared to take the National Board for Respiratory Care Entry Level (CRT) and the Advanced Practitioner (RRT) Examinations. NVCC Students also earn clinical experience at the following agencies: Bridgeport Hospital, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Danbury Hospital, Gaylord Specialty Health Care, Hospital for Special Care, Waterbury Pulmonary Associates, St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital.
